Amplicon Sequencing of Plant Material Links Cotton Fleahopper to Host Plants
نویسندگان
چکیده
The cotton fleahopper (CFH), Pseudatomoscelis seriatus (Reuter), is an early season pest that feeds on terminals resulting in flower abortion, irregular plant growth, and delayed maturity. CFH has been documented over 160 host plants across 35 families. Identification of was accomplished through observed presence a the field and/or controlled feeding studies under lab conditions. Because generalist, these results may not accurately represent used by natural We amplicon sequencing to identify material potentially ingested nymphs. Control samples consisted CFHs fed laboratory horsemint, Monarda spp. Nymphs were also collected using sweep net from fields dense with croton (Croton spp.), or mixed composition. detected correct family control samples. BLAST (https://blast.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/Blast.cgi) categorized hits into seven different families, one which be new for CFH. Based findings, useful further understand complex ecology CFH, ultimately improve management strategies

Amplicon sequencing of bacterial microbiota in abortion material from cattle
Abortions in cattle have a significant economic impact on animal husbandry and require prompt diagnosis for surveillance of epizootic infectious agents. Since most abortions are not epizootic but sporadic with often undetected etiologies, this study examined the bacterial community present in the placenta (PL, n = 32) and fetal abomasal content (AC, n = 49) in 64 cases of bovine abortion by nex...

متن کاملCotton water-deficit stress, age, and cultivars as moderating factors of cotton fleahopper abundance and yield loss
Field experiments were conducted in 2012 and 2013 during drought conditions in South Texas and the Texas High Plains to test whether cotton water-deficit stress, age, and cultivars are moderating and interacting factors that affect cotton fleahopper, Pseudatomoscelis seriatus (Reuter) (Hemiptera: Miridae), abundance and yield loss. Irrigation and sequential plantings of several cultivars were u...
متن کاملPlant allocation to defensive compounds: interactions between elevated CO(2) and nitrogen in transgenic cotton plants.
Plant allocation to defensive compounds in response to growth in elevated atmospheric CO(2) in combination with two levels of nitrogen was examined. The aim was to discover if allocation patterns of transgenic plants containing genes for defensive chemicals which had not evolved in the species would respond as predicted by the Carbon Nutrient Balance (CNB) hypothesis. Cotton plants (Gossypium h...
